AliVet INTESTINAL-DIET

Special dietary purpose:
  • To alleviate acute intestinal absorption disorders

The INTESTINAL Diet Line was developed to restore the gut flora, stabilise the body’s electrolyte balance, and make up for lost fluids. As a general rule, the food must not put additional strain on the digestive process by containing high amounts of fat or cereal, for example. Cereal, in particular, is hard for dogs to digest and can disrupt digestion. The grain-free INTESTINAL Diet Line contains muscle meat as well as low-fat heart and stomach meat, all of which are of 100% human-grade quality. These ingredients supply the dog with healthy, high-quality amino acids and omega 6 fatty acids. Light, easily digestible fruits and vegetables provide natural dietary fibre, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. These menus also include three medicinal herbs – camomile, aniseed, and caraway – which are known to calm the digestive tract and ease cramps. Linseeds and psyllium seed husks foster digestion. Yarrow was added to improve bile flow, while gingko is considered a substance that traps free radicals. Mineral earth (= Luvos Healing Earth) acts as a buffer against excess acids. MCT oil supplies rapidly available energy, while probiotics (= effective microorganisms/EM) help the gut flora regain its equilibrium.

Acute or chronic inflammation of the digestive tract as well as general intestinal diseases are accompanied by mild to severe symptoms. An acute inflammation can affect the stomach (gastritis), intestine (enteritis), or the entire digestive tract (gastroenteritis). Triggered by a bacterial or viral infection, parasites, or a general disease, intestinal inflammation causes lethargy, fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea in dogs. Classic symptoms can also include a loss of appetite, flatulence, and intestinal cramps. The chronic form of such inflammation is called IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), where the dog suffers from digestive problems its entire life. The cause of this disease is still unknown. High-volume diarrhoea lasting more than two days causes the sick animal to dehydrate. A dehydrated animal can be identified by its deeply sunken eyes, states of fatigue, very “sticky” mucosa in the mouth, and low skin elasticity. If dehydration sets in, diarrhoea persists, or there are indications of a severe gastrointestinal disease, it is imperative that the animal is taken into veterinary care. In additional to pharmaceutical therapy, it is necessary to switch to an intestinal diet in order to help restore gut health, promote optimum gut functionality and, if needed, support the dog long-term in case of chronic diseases.

EXTRA tip:
When a dog is suffering from diarrhoea, the measure recommended first is complete food withdrawal for 24 to 48 hours. Fresh drinking water must always be available. This total fasting diet helps calm the digestive tract and fosters the digestive system’s ability to cleanse itself naturally. The food withdrawal automatically eliminates any additional burden acting on the digestive tract. Furthermore, it reduces the risk of developing a food allergy. Irritation of the intestinal lining strains the immune system’s natural barrier and makes it more permeable. As a result, large protein molecules contained in food can pass through this barrier and lead to the production of antibodies, which in turn can trigger allergic reactions. The recommended total fasting diet helps the intestinal lining regenerate and can also be a gentle and fast way of stopping diarrhoea. This way, food protein cannot pass through the compromised intestinal barrier, thereby preventing any food allergies that might develop at a later stage.

Fasting diets must be strictly avoided in puppies and young dogs, as well as in obese dogs, because the metabolic state of these animals is different and is adversely affected by food withdrawal. Especially in very overweight animals, a fasting diet in which the nutrients are suddenly withdrawn creates the risk of excessive fat mobilisation. High-volume diarrhoea lasting more than two days causes an animal to dehydrate. A dehydrated animal can be identified by its deeply sunken eyes, states of fatigue, and low skin elasticity. If dehydration sets in, diarrhoea persists, or there are indications of severe disease, it is imperative that the animal is taken into veterinary care.

Highest quality and species-appropriate recipes

In nature, cats hunt their prey for direct consumption. Each hunt means a freshly caught meal. In this way, the cat instinctively provides itself with nutrients of exceptional quality and maximum freshness. Terra Felis is based on this unique quality concept in nature. For the menus, only human-grade quality ingredients are used. This makes Terra Felis the first cat food in 100 % human-grade quality of all ingredients, setting it apart from all other products on the market in terms of quality. In addition to the quality of ingredients, a species-appropriate recipe is essential for the health of the cat. With 90 % meat and nutritious offal, a low proportion of fibre in the form of vegetables, no grain and the addition of taurine, it imitates the natural prey of the cat perfectly. In this way, the cat’s organism is supplied with all the important nutrients in the highest possible quality.
