DHL GoGreen

Our partner for sustainable shipping

DHL has high standards when it comes to offsetting emissions and chooses projects that offer benefits for both the environment and local communities. Here, the logistics-related CO2 emissions generated by parcel shipping are offset by the creation of certified climate protection projects across the world. The climate-neutral GoGreen shipping method not only offsets emissions, but also makes a contribution to boosting the economy in less developed countries and improving the lives of local people. Currently a mix of different types of project are supported, such as those focusing on energy efficiency, water supply and renewable energy. All projects have VER Gold Standard climate protection certificates. In Lesotho in southern Africa, a climate protection project has been implemented that has equipped several households with efficient Save80 cookers that save up to 80 per cent in firewood. Not only does this reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but it also means that people are no longer subjected to harmful smoke when cooking and deforestation and the soil erosion it causes are also reduced – and people can spend the time they would otherwise have spent collecting firewood in a more profitable way.
The project was realised together with the non-profit climate protection organisation atmosfair and local partner SolarLights and won the national Energy Globe Award in 2018.
