Terra Canis Gold Rush – The Fabulous Five

Hempseed oil, linseed oil, argan oil, rose hip seed oil and black cumin oil combine in this product to create a true ‘Gold Rush’. This special Terra Canis oil contains valuable mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as important omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These support the immune system, cell structure, a beautiful coat and healthy eyesight. Furthermore, ‘Gold Rush’ provides a high concentration of essential micronutrients and is a natural, healthy source of energy for dogs.

Linseed oil
Known as ‘liquid gold’, it consists of 90% unsaturated fatty acids and is exceptionally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which support a dog’s heart, immune system, coat and skin. What’s more, the alpha-linoleic acid found within linseed oil promotes a healthy digestive system. Linseed oil contains numerous vitamins and phytochemicals that have an antioxidant effect and therefore help to protect cells.

Argan oil
Exquisite argan oil contains antioxidant substances and is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Of these, linoleic acid is particularly essential – and is known to support healthy organ function and keep the intestinal mucosa fit. The phytochemicals and carotenoids support the coat, skin, heart, liver and gall bladder.

Black cumin oil
Linoleic acid – an unsaturated fatty acid – accounts for 60% of this valuable oil, which is known for its wide range of benefits; it not only has a positive effect on the immune system, digestive system and metabolism, but also helps to protect the kidneys and liver. Black cumin oil contains valuable antioxidants for cell protection, whereas its naturally occurring essential oil has a decongestant effect.

Hempseed oil
This unique oil boasts the best fatty acid structure of all edible oils. That’s because hempseed oil contains vital omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the optimum ratio of 1:3. It is rich in the ‘super nutrient’ chlorophyll and in beta- carotene – a precursor of vitamin A that is extremely beneficial for the eyes, coat and skin. Hempseed oil also contains oleic acid, antioxidants, numerous minerals and valuable gamma-linoleic acid, which is also thought to have a protective effect on the cells.

Rose hip seed oil
Rose hip is famed for its abundance of vitamin C, which is why its fine oil is a true blessing for the immune system. This unique vegetable oil also contains a large helping of vitamin E, beta-carotene and flavonoids, which protect the cells against free radicals. The considerable share of vitamin A acid makes rose hip seed oil an effective aid for canine skin and coats.

Fatty acid structure of Gold Rush:
Saturated fatty acids: 11.1%
Monounsaturated fatty acids: 17.9%
Polyunsaturated fatty acids: 70.9%
of which omega-3 fatty acids: 15.6% and omega-6 fatty acids: 55.3%

Which fatty acids do what?
Saturated fatty acids primarily provide dogs with energy, whereas unsaturated fatty acids support the immune system and cell structure, thus boosting the body’s natural defences. What’s more, they support neural pathways and brain function. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids also support the condition of the coat and skin, as well as healthy eyesight.

HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY SWITCH FOODS

Vet Hanna Stephan has some tips

A change to a new food often puts the cat owner to a hard test of patience. This is an expression of the cat's special food imprint. Their receptors "warn" them of the unknown. This instinct often makes a food change very difficult and lengthy. Alongside a species-appropriate recipe with an extremely high meat content, a few small tricks can help ease the transition.

TIP 1: RECONDITIONING
Place a bowl with the new food alongside the old food (which the cat should continue to eat for the time being) for a few days, allowing the new smell to be incorporated within the cat’s ‘prey spectrum’. As such, the rejection or ‘fear’ of the new food will gradually be diminished until it is no longer regarded as ‘strange’.

TIP 2: STEP BY STEP
Once the cat has got used to the new smell, small amounts of the new food can be mixed into the old food. The pace at which this is done depends on the cat concerned. The more critical the cat is by nature, the smaller the initial concentration of the new food. If the cat shows great interest in the new food or prefers it to the old food, the ‘mixing in’ process can go at a faster rate or even be skipped.

TIP 3: FEEDING INCENTIVES
Gently warming up the new food or – depending on your cat’s preferences – adding a small amount of salt, fish oil or Parmesan for a short period can help to make the new product even more appetising.

TIP 4: PEACE AND QUIET
Ensure that your cat has a quiet feeding place where they can eat and sniff their food without being disturbed. Some cats feel even happier and safer in raised feeding places.
